Hair Implants

Considering Hair Implants?

Hair implants are one treatment option for baldness and hair loss in both males and females. Cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists can restore hair growth in patients who have lost hair due to aging, chemotherapy, or other skin disease. Hair implants are most often harvested from the back of the head where follicles are more resistant to balding. They are then transplanted to the top of the head using a very fine needle that inserts the hair root into an existing follicle. Hair implants are also an option for thin eyelashes, eyebrows, and beards. In the US and UK, the cost of hair implants is about $10,000 or £5,000. Overseas, doctors can perform this cosmetic procedure for much less.

Within Latin America, the top destinations for hair implants are Mexico and Argentina, where the operation only costs about $2,200 or £1,500. Plastic surgeons in Latin America are skilled in the latest techniques in hair restoration, and they perform hair transplants inside clean and modern facilities. Many doctors have medical degrees from the US and UK, and most doctors and nurses speak English. During a hair implant session, the doctor will carefully harvest hair and roots from an unnoticeable part of the scalp. He will then implant the hairs into the bald spot following a natural pattern of hair growth. Within a few weeks the transplanted hairs will fall out, but the roots will remain and new hair growth will occur. Scarring is minimal, and the new hair will be strong. After a hair implant procedure, doctors will be on hand to perform check-ups.
